Time flies when you are having fun

There lies the problem — old age catches up before you know it. Have too much fun and your life passes by in a flash. Fortunately, there are constraints, self-imposed or otherwise. Were there none and we would all die young of too much, or too little of a good thing, too much good food, or too little water. I mean water, not sodas.

There are other constraints; your family members and your friends. What is fun to you may be total boredom to them and vice versa, which means we must balance our boredom with their fun. At times this may result in extended periods of having very little fun. A good example would be doing time at some Disney theme park with or without assorted relatives. I love most (some) of my relatives, but live best with them in moderate doses — neither too much nor too little.

A Clear Case of Too Little

I want to convey the need to have fun when you retire. Do what comes easiest, or if you like a challenge, sail around the world or climb Kilimanjaro. Of course, there are less demanding challenges, like going on 24/7 eat-till-you-bust cruises or hunting safaris in Africa to shoot something defenseless.

If you like swimming, make sure you have the ocean, a lake, or a swimming pool within wheelchair distance.

This guy should swim a mile per day.

If you love animals, get a couple of dogs, goats, or donkeys. If that isn’t enough, go live on a farm. If you can’t afford to buy a farm, work, or volunteer on one.

There are other things you might like. What about gardening, baking, or opening a bakery? What about building model airplanes, or taking flying lessons?

The sky’s the limit, or rather space is, and if you are a deranged multi-millionaire, and would like a little trip into space, by all means, give Bezos a call. I wonder if you can order a seat on one of his flights at Amazon and if they offer cabin class seats. Perhaps they can strap the not-so-rich to the outside of the spaceship for the excursion rate.

Travel with Amazon into Space and see it all up close and from the outside…

Again I deviate off the subject and to be honest, I suspect it is an age-related problem I am developing lately. Perhaps I’m having too much fun. As pointed out earlier, too much or too little will be deleterious to your health.

Just a few more examples:

Don’t take up skateboarding after retirement. Try swimming instead.

Don’t go hang gliding or skydiving. Try pickleball.

Instead of buying yourself a Motorcycle, buy a tricycle.

Don’t sign up for membership in a Cruising Club. Try the local bridge or chess clubs.

I’m sure you get the message; go and have some fun…
